Safe Cross Code By 3rd Class

Green Schools Committee
Our Green School’s Committee this year is made up of all the children in third class.

Travel Flag
We are currently working on our fourth Green Flag. The Theme for the fourth Green Flag is Travel. The aim of the Travel theme is to increase the number of students walking, cycling, scooting, using public transport or carpooling on the way to school.

WOW! (Walk on Wednesday)
We are all aware that walking in the fresh air is medicine for the mind and brilliant for the body but walking each week also helps to create better travel habits which in turn benefits our environment. We would like to encourage all our pupils who can walk to school to try and walk every Wednesday.

National Walk to School Week
National Walk to School Week runs from 24th -28th May 2021.

National WOW! Day
National WOW! Day (Walk on Wednesday) will take place on May 26th 2021.
We understand that it is simply not possible for every student to participate in WOW! however we would like to encourage all children and their parents who can walk to school to try their best to participate in National Walk on Wednesday which takes place on Wednesday 26th May 2021.
HSE Guidelines: Please remember that social distancing is still very important to help slow the spread of Covid-19. If you are walking to school please keep a distance of 2 metres between you and other families. There is very little risk if you are just passing someone but try to keep a distance of 2 metres as much as possible.
St. Daigh's National School Awarded its 3rd Green Schools Flag!
A massive well done to each and every one of you for helping our school achieve it's 3rd Green Flag for Water Conservation. A special word of thanks to Mrs Duffy and the Green School's Committee for guiding us through the steps and helping us to initiate good practice for saving water required to maintain a sustainable future for St. Daigh's NS and its wider community.

2019-2020

Green-Schools is a long-term environment education and awareness programme where schools, contribute to the sustainable development of the County for both current and future generations. Schools undertake various activities on each of the following themes: Litter and Waste, Energy Conservation, Water Conservation, Transport and Healthy Living and are awarded the Green Flag Award.

Litter & Waste

In 2013 we were delighted to be awarded our first Green Flag for Litter & Waste. Litter & Waste is the first theme of the Green-Schools programme. The theme is a great starting point for encouraging a sense of personal pride and responsibility in tackling two visible issues in schools and communities.

Energy

In 2018 we were delighted to be awarded our second Green Flag for Energy. Energy is the second theme that schools undertake. This theme looks at the steps which can be taken to reduce energy consumption and raise awareness of climate change issues.

Water

We are currently working on the Water Theme. Water is one of the core themes of the Green-Schools programme. The Water theme looks at developing awareness around water conservation and how to effectively manage this important resource in our schools and at home.

St. Daigh’s Green Code

We are a school from Inniskeen
And we want to keep it green,
Save our Water,
Hear us shout,
It’s time to sort the wasting out!

We think water’s really cool,
It’s time to use it less in school.

We are a school from Inniskeen
And we want to keep it green,
Save our Water,
Hear us shout,
It’s time to sort the wasting out!

In May of 2017 the Green-Schools Committee got together and wrote two poems for the Tidy Towns Committee. The poems were printed on two benches beside the River Fane.

What do I hear?
A gentle breeze blowing leaves
Trees rustling in the wind
Every bird is singing as the
River Fane splashes over the rocks

River Fane races through our village
Inniskeen is a beautiful place
Various flowers growing along the river bank
Eager fishermen smile as I walk past
Ripples in the water catch my eye
